Abstract

The article examines one of the categories of English borrowings in contemporary French – full (integral) borrowings, that is, lexical units that retain the morphophonological structure and semantics of the source language. A classification of such anglicisms is presented based on morphological, semantic, and functional criteria. The main identified subgroups include full lexical borrowings proper, occasionalisms, abbreviations and acronyms, as well as phraseological units and expressions. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of xenisms and peregrinisms, foreign elements denoting English-specific realities, which exist at various levels of integration into the French linguistic environment. The article also addresses controversial aspects of classification and terminological inconsistencies. Emphasis is placed on the evolutionary nature of borrowings and their ability to change status and adapt to a new linguistic system.
