Abstract

The article examines the peculiarities of rendering Spanish periphrastic constructions with the meaning of the beginning and end of an action by means of the Ukrainian language.

Periphrastic constructions are among the most frequently used stylistic devices in Spanish, which lack direct equivalents not only in Ukrainian but also in a number of other (especially Slavic) languages. Due to this interlinguistic discrepancy, rendering Spanish periphrases into Ukrainian can pose certain difficulties, as the translators' task is to accurately convey the stylistic and semantic features of the source text. Given that the Ukrainian language lacks full equivalents for Spanish periphrastic constructions, it is the semantic criterion of rendering these constructions, rather than their grammatical structure, that is given the greatest consideration in translation.
